Utah Lake Bridge Proposal
Are you willing to bet $600 million that people willl pay $2 to $3 to cross the proposed bridge from Orem to Saratoga Springs? According to one group it is a resounding 'YES!'
Leon Harward, president of Utah Crossing Inc. and devloper, has a plan to make this long talked about idea a reality. The six mile long tole bridge would be built from 800 North to Pelican Point, two lanes in each direction, 35 feet above the lake, with a section that rises 50 ft to allow for boats to pass.
The Pros:
No stop lights. No crowded downtown Lehi traffic. A straight shot at 65-70mph, making the trip in six minutes or less.
The Cons:
Possible compromised air quality standards. A private enterprise rather than a public-private partnership. Run off into the lake may harm endarged species (ie. the June Sucker).
Conclusion:
Other such proposal in other states have been very successful and has made money for the state to go back into land mangement. It seems that it will be inevitable but as for when, where, and how is still up for debate.
